How are the therapy groups different at FWBTC than that of other places?

Most anger management and family violence groups are not therapeutic, they are
psychoeducational in nature. This means that the group is better described as a class. Our groups
specifically target the development our client’s self-determined goals that will encourage the
attainment of their preferred futures.

In a group therapy format, the interaction between the group members offers different possibilities
for change and growth than that of psycho-educational groups.  This allows for the group
members to engage in appropriate self disclosure by encouraging discussions about events that
he or she was involved in during the previous week as well as his or her responses to these
events.  This interaction with not just the therapist, but other group members allows the member
to feel like they are not alone overcoming various troubles.

Other group members as well as the therapist have the opportunity to respond by giving
feedback, encourage, give support or criticism, and share their own experiences and solutions in
similar situations.  The feedback the member will get on his behavior in the group can encourage
him to become aware to maladaptive patterns of behavior, change his point of view, and help him
build more constructive and effective ways to resolve problems in his relationships.

There is hope, you can discover the solutions that will allow you to construct the life you
always wanted and overcome anger.
